When Brian Wampler designed the Cryptid, he had the following goals: combine the architectures of his favorite fuzz boxes into a single pedal; make it simple to use; and make it ultra-versatile. The classic Volume, Tone, and Fuzz layout will make both existing fans of fuzz and newcomers feel at home. The sweep of the Character control shifts from classic to modern fuzz and even treads into the psychedelically bizarre. Meanwhile, the Tight and Chime switches spur additional tone-sculpting possibilities. The Tight switch goes from a big bottom end to a tighter, more distorted, and overdrive-like experience. To add extra harmonic overtones and open the top end, activate the Chime switch and listen as the Cryptid’s gain circuit blossoms into an overdrive machine.
