The Vemuram Butter Machine is Michael Landau’s signature distortion pedal, developed in close collaboration with Vemuram over more than two years of R&D. Countless prototypes were tested by Landau during recording sessions, at his Los Angeles home studio and on tour, allowing the circuit to be refined under real-world playing conditions.

The concept began with the Ibanez SD9, a pedal Landau had used as his main high-gain distortion for many years. The goal was to retain the qualities he loved while eliminating the excessive compression and high-end harshness he experienced with the original. The result is a new type of distortion with an open, natural feel, extensive sustain and a wide gain range that moves effortlessly from overdrive into full distortion.

Alongside Volume, Gain and Tone, the Butter Machine features two dedicated trimmers for detailed tonal adjustment. The SPARKLE trimmer provides a peaking boost centred around 6kHz, allowing you to control high-end crunch and presence, while the LOW-MID trimmer adds body and bottom end to suit different guitars, amplifiers and playing environments.

Highly responsive to picking dynamics and guitar volume, the Butter Machine remains clear, punchy and solid when the guitar is rolled back. It is designed to deliver high gain and sustain without sacrificing the dynamics, definition and musical response of the instrument.
