A Sub-style Bass Drum Mic with Full-range Sound
The KickTone takes the concept of a reverse-speaker kick drum microphone to a whole new level with a punchy, full-range sound, simplified mounting, and a convenient, lightweight design. This sub-style dynamic mic boasts an expansive frequency response, enabling it to capture the higher-frequency transients that give kick drums their characteristic snap. What's more, it can be mounted directly to a kick drum's resonant head, onto a KickPort bass drum port, or on a standard microphone stand. The KickTone's mount swivels a full 360° and locks down for ultra-precise positioning, plus the mic includes a high-quality Neutrik XLR output connector for maximum reliability. A hearty 175dB max SPL and a 2.2-pound (1 Kg) weight round out this microphone's impressive specs. If you've been searching for that missing piece of your drum sound, take the KickTone for a spin — it just might be the secret sauce you've been craving.
Kickport + Kicktone = Perfect Duo
The KickPort Drum Insert applies subwoofer technology to your bass drum giving you low end you feel, even lower than your ears can hear. Additionally, it adds ideal dampening to the head which allows you to reclaim all that valuable resonant space inside your beautiful drum. So now you are free to remove that giant sleeping pillow choking the vibrations of the shell and replace it with minimal internal dampening.
Easier & Quicker Setup with Kickport
The KickTone mic can be mounted in two ways. You can mount it on a standard microphone stand, but much better, you can attach it directly to a bass drum’s resonant head with a proprietary slide bracket, supplied with each mic, that quick-connects it to any KickPort. That keeps it securely locked in the drum’s sweet spot, where it won’t block the view of your drum head artwork or get kicked out of position by an energetic singer.
Captures every transient of your kick drum
Most sub-style microphones exhibit a narrow frequency response — they capture a kick drum's woofiness, but not much more than that. That said, the KickTone is an entirely different animal. Its second coaxial dynamic structure imbues it with an expansive 20Hz–10kHz frequency response, enabling it to capture the higher-frequency transients that give kick drums their distinctive snap. What's more, its custom-manufactured hemp diaphragm is rigid, lightweight, and exhibits outstanding damping characteristics — a must have for direct mounting on a drumhead. We've found that the KickTone sounds so great, it's actually suitable for miking bass guitar amplifiers and the lower-register keys on an acoustic piano. By combining the KickTone with conventional microphones, you'll be able to craft all sorts of mind-blowing, never-before-heard timbres from common sound sources. And, thanks to the microphone's flexible mounting, positioning it is a cinch.
