Good value, versatile, delivers on promise.

I have a pedalboard built around a tube preamp pedal with both cab sim direct XLR outs, and an output designed to go to the effects return of a guitar amp for real amp-in-the-room sound. So I was in the market for a compact poweramp I could use with a guitar cab for this purpose. Seymour Duncan Powerstage and similar products would have done the job but for the same money this comes along with many more features. Three way EQ, Flat response input mode and then a choice of Linear poweramp style or various power tube characters for use with the preamp pedal, does a great job (I found the EL34 voice more appealing and less sterile than the Linear amp). BUT ALSO, it’s a stand-alone guitar amp with reverb and its own editable digital cab sim XLR out. The U.S. voice is a classic Fenderish clean pedal platform amp sound (turn the gain all the way up and it stays clean but becomes a touch warmer and naturally compressed). The U.K. voice allows edge of breakup to crunch type amp you could control from the volume control on your guitar if you favour that approach. Plenty of power into an 8 ohm cab (in 100w setting I doubt you’d ever get the master past halfway without losing the gig). A bit of time on the editor software to select and tweak your cab sim sound and reverb type and decay (you’ll want to do this as it comes with a very short room ambience which won’t suit everyone). It would also be an easy way to go stereo teamed up with a tube amp with your wet effects in its effects loop, run the left out of your stereo effects to the tube amp’s effects return and the right effects output to the Blackstar and a cab (Flat input voice).
