The Royalist Tube Preamp Pedal distils the essence of classic British rock tone into a compact, pedalboard-ready format. Inspired by Tone King’s Royalist MKIII amplifier, it spans the full lineage of British drive - from early JTM-style sweetness, through Plexi crunch, to the bold, authoritative roar of late-’60s and early-’70s rock amps.
At its core are three 12AX7 valves running at proper high voltage, delivering the touch sensitivity, harmonic bloom, and dynamic response of a real tube amplifier. Two fully independent channels mirror the original amp’s gain structure and feel, each equipped with a FAT switch and a three-way era voicing selector. Clean, edge-of-breakup, or full-throttle drive tones are all on tap, with the unmistakable response of a genuine British circuit.
Each channel features era-accurate tone stacks for authentic flavour. One channel is voiced after vintage JTM45, Bassman, and Super Bass EQ curves, while the other reflects later British Lead designs with a more forward midrange. The result is two complementary voices that can be dialled close or used as distinctly different channels within the same rig.
A key part of the Royalist’s realism is its built-in Zero Watt Power Amp. This true phase inverter circuit recreates the harmonic interaction between preamp and power section, capturing the feel of an overdriven amp without excessive volume. It is a critical detail that sets the Royalist apart from typical preamp pedals.
For modern setups, the Royalist includes a low-latency IR cabinet and power amp simulation engine, ready for direct recording, FOH, or silent practice. A selection of premium OwnHammer IRs is preloaded, with additional options available via the editor software. Whether used standalone, with an external power amp, or integrated into a larger effects-loop system, the Royalist delivers authentic British tone with contemporary flexibility.
