The long-discontinued DigiTech Bad Monkey overdrive, after existing in bargain-bin limbo for decades, garnered a robust cult following (and an equally robust price markup), thanks to a much-publicized shootout video by Josh Scott. Now, you can stop combing the internet for a well-preserved used specimen, because the Bad Monkey is back, and it’s badder than ever. Re-created from the ground up by the mad sonic alchemists at DOD, the new — and improved — Badder Monkey features its predecessor’s green-voiced overdrive circuit, along with a potent cache of upgrades. For starters, in addition to the original Bad circuit, the new pedal includes Behaved and Badder circuits, along with a 360-degree Barrel knob that blends any two overdrive paths, giving rise to an endless array of tail-twitching tone combos. Next, a 3-way toggle enables you to move the Bad circuit in and out of phase or to activate all three circuits at once in Troop mode. Additionally, Bananas, Curiosity, and Mood knobs provide plenty of tweakability in true Lamb-era fashion. Lastly, the Badder Monkey includes a reversible StagePlate for trouble-free pedalboard attachment. From subtle, tube-like breakup to grungy rock grit to all manner of simian-style chirruping, the DOD Badder Monkey is guaranteed to go wild on your tone in the best possible way.

Endless tones you’ll go positively ape for

Ever since Josh Scott’s popular overdrive shootout video, there’s been an insane demand for a Bad Monkey reissue. Housing its predecessor’s overdrive circuit, gain, and EQ frequencies, the new Badder Monkey certainly delivers on that front. That’s just the beginning, however. This stellar simian stompbox bolsters the original Bad circuit with all-new Behaved and Badder circuits, imbuing this Monkey with a whole new bag of tonal tricks. Moreover, DOD’s patent-pending, 360-degree Barrel control enables you to blend any two of the three overdrive paths, providing access to hundreds of never-before-heard overdrive combos. The Badder Monkey’s 3-way toggle switch allows you to either move the Bad circuit in or out of phase or leave the switch in the center position to activate Troop mode and use all three circuits at once. As for the rest of the pedal’s controls, you won’t find the typical Level, Gain, and Tone knobs. So what do you get? Well, let’s just say that their irreverent naming labels would do Jason Lamb proud.

Flip your setup without the fuss

The DOD Badder Monkey comes equipped with a patent-pending reversible StagePlate for ultimate mounting flexibility. One side features a Skid Pad to keep your pedal firmly in place onstage or on the floor. Flip it over, and you’ll find a pre-attached Hook Side Pad for quick, hassle-free pedalboard attachment. Switching sides is as simple as removing a few screws — no fuss, just flip and play.
