The Rodenberg DAPHNE High-Voltage Overdrive takes a fundamentally different approach to traditional overdrive design. Rather than relying on a conventional low-voltage clipping circuit, DAPHNE uses an internal high-voltage architecture operating at approximately 280 volts, with three FET amplifier stages designed to recreate the dynamics, harmonic richness and responsive feel of a driven tube amplifier. 

The result is an exceptionally touch-sensitive overdrive that responds naturally to both pick attack and your guitar’s volume control. Play lightly and DAPHNE cleans up; dig in harder and the circuit delivers increased harmonic drive and saturation. Its open, dynamic character is designed to behave more like an amplifier gain stage than a conventional stompbox, making it equally useful as the foundation of a pedalboard or as an additional gain stage in front of an existing amp. 

A dedicated AMP VOICING switch allows DAPHNE to adapt to different amplifier setups. CLEAN mode adds brilliance and presence when running into a clean amplifier, while DRIVE mode reshapes the upper frequencies for use with an already driven amp, allowing additional gain and sustain without becoming overly harsh or fizzy. 

Tone shaping is comprehensive but straightforward. A full 3-band Bass, Middle and Treble EQ provides precise control over the pedal’s response, while the two-position GAIN switch moves between dynamic low-gain crunch and a more saturated high-gain response. The TIGHT switch controls the low-frequency behaviour, tightening the bottom end for a faster, more defined attack when required. 

Handmade in Germany in small quantities, DAPHNE combines its high-voltage analogue circuitry with a rugged powder-coated aluminium enclosure and mechanical True Bypass switching. A dedicated mute circuit provides virtually silent switching, making DAPHNE equally at home on stage, in the studio or at the centre of a premium pedalboard.
