TOKI is a highly flexible fuzz and fuzzy driver designed to cover everything from warm, lightly driven textures through to rich, aggressive fuzz. Rather than behaving like a traditional unruly fuzz, TOKI is designed to complement the natural character of your clean tone while adding texture, saturation and harmonic complexity.
Its hybrid topology combines a discrete front end with an IC-based back end, while an unusually comprehensive control set lets you manipulate how the signal hits each gain stage. TRIM acts as a passive input pad, CMP adjusts capacitor loading and high-frequency response, PAD controls the level between the discrete gain stages, and GAIN determines the drive of the second discrete stage. LEVEL controls the final output, followed by a dedicated output driver that maintains consistent output impedance.
This architecture allows TOKI to produce convincing fuzz-as-low-gain-overdrive sounds as well as considerably heavier fuzz textures. Engaging the brighter PAD and GAIN settings can push it towards a sharper, more aggressive character, while its ability to operate comfortably after buffers makes it much easier to integrate into modern pedalboards than many traditional fuzz circuits. TOKI can also work as an always-on input driver and stacks particularly well with other gain stages.
Like other 29 Pedals designs, TOKI features the company’s WHATEVER power system, accepting a remarkably broad range of 7.5–35V AC or DC power with either polarity. It is hand-built in the USA using premium components and draws approximately 100mA.
