Gsus4 Journal / New release
ZOOM NEURIG.
A fresh take on the guitar rig.
Neural amp modelling, four-switch performance control and a rechargeable battery in one compact pedal. Here is what matters for your next setup.
A direct-to-PA rig for the gig. A headphone setup for the evening. A USB recording interface when an idea arrives. The newly announced ZOOM NEURIG brings those jobs together, with enough routing flexibility to keep your favourite pedals and amp involved.
Its appeal starts with the hardware: two touchscreens, four footswitches, 200 rig memories and a body weighing 850 g. The bigger story is ZOOM's new DNA Engine and an announced SessionZ Pedal ecosystem that extends the idea of a guitar processor into tone discovery, editing and practice.
*Block count depends on processing load; routing tools count towards the limit. Battery runtime varies with settings and use.

DNA Engine: designed to respond as you turn the controls
ZOOM describes DNA, short for Dynamic Neural Archive, as modelling how an amp or pedal responds across its controls. The promise is that changing gain or EQ feels more like adjusting the equipment being modelled.
For players, the useful question is simple: can a model take you from a restrained rhythm sound to a more driven lead without losing the character you chose it for? That is the behaviour DNA is intended to address. This first look is based on ZOOM's published information.
The announced library combines 30 DNA models, 22 modelling amps, 22 multilayer IR cabinets and 139 effects. Those categories total 213 types. ZOOM also lists 75 preset rigs with four sounds each, giving you starting points before you build your own.
02 / Underfoot
Build one rig. Give it four performance sounds.
A NEURIG rig is a virtual pedalboard: the effects and amps you choose, their order, and the settings that make them work together. Each rig can hold up to 14 blocks, within the available processing power.
Program mode stores four combinations of effect states and parameter settings within that rig. A practical starting point is clean, crunch, rhythm and lead. Each effect has three parameter slots in this mode, so your lead program can call up a different delay setting as well as switch the delay on.
ZOOM describes seamless program changes with delay and reverb tails retained. The useful distinction is that these are changes within a rig; that should not be read as a blanket promise about changing between unrelated rigs.
Stomp mode offers familiar pedal-style control, assigning one effect to each footswitch. Swipe into Stage View to enlarge the program or effect names while you play.
03 / Your existing gear
Keep the pedals and amp you already love
The send/return loop lets an external pedal sit inside your NEURIG chain. A four-cable setup can place effects before an amp's preamp and others after it. Splitter, Mixer and Line Selector tools also let you create parallel paths or switch between them.
A CONTROL IN socket supports a compatible ZOOM FP02M expression pedal or FS01 footswitch. MIDI IN/OUT uses 3.5 mm TRS connectors, with USB MIDI available for integration into a larger setup.
04 / Between gigs
Practise quietly. Record an idea. Leave the power lead behind.
The built-in battery is rated for approximately 4.5 hours of operation. That makes NEURIG an interesting option for a compact practice setup: guitar in, headphones connected, and music streaming from your phone over Bluetooth.
The 45-second looper includes overdubbing and undo/redo for trying parts over a repeating phrase. There is also an onboard tuner, so these everyday jobs do not need extra pedals.
Connect USB-C to a compatible computer, smartphone or tablet and NEURIG becomes a 2-in/2-out audio interface at 48 kHz, with 32-bit float and 24-bit USB formats specified in the manual. Windows needs the ZOOM driver; a data-capable cable and any required device adaptor are also part of the setup.
05 / The announced ecosystem
NAM, SessionZ Pedal and what is still to come
ZOOM announces native NAM A2 Lite compatibility and a SessionZ Pedal connection to TONE3000's community libraries. These are distinct from the onboard DNA models. If importing your own captures is central to your buying decision, the software rollout matters.
The planned app experience includes RIG AI text prompts for sound creation, mobile rig editing, and SessionZ Play for controlling music playback with the footswitches. Stem separation is also promoted; Shimamura's launch coverage specifies local audio files, rather than YouTube audio, for that feature.
